Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Cypriots Photis Photiou held an official visit to Archbishop Makarios’ office.
During the meeting, the two men discussed the future course of the Cyprus issue.
At the same time, Photis Photiou gave a congratulatory letter to Archbishop Makarios on behalf of the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, for his election and enthronement to the important position in the Archdiocese of Australia, saying that “the President wanted you to officially receive this letter.”
The Archbishop of Australia thanked Photis Photiou and assured that he and his associates in the Holy Archdiocese would continue talking about the tragedy of Cyprus and fighting for this cause.
In his letter the President of Cyprus says the following:
“On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Cyprus, on the occasion of your election and enthronement, I would like to congratulate you warmly and to wish every success in your spiritual and national work, as well as in the sacred mission to serve the people from this leading position, that of the Archbishop of Australia.”
It should be noted that the President of Cyprus also gave a silver model of the ship of Kyrenia to the new Archbishop of Australia Makarios, symbolizing the opening and the openness of the Cypriot people to all.
