Cyprus, Greece and Egypt officials meet in Nicosia to coordinate Diaspora activities
CNA - Antonios Gkildakis - CYPRUS/Nicosia 22/04/2021
Officials from Cyprus, Greece and Egypt meet Friday, in Nicosia, to coordinate Diaspora activities. Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou welcomes Nabila Makram, the Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates, and Kostas Vlasis, the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister for Greeks Abroad, in their first tripartite meeting that takes place with physical presence since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fotiou told CNA that the meeting with his counterparts and their respective delegations will discuss a number of issues, including the continuation of the “Nostos” program, that involves members of the Cypriot, Greek and Egyptian Diaspora, as well as a regional gathering to further Diaspora cooperation, with the participation of other countries.
Plans for visits of Ambetios School students in all three countries and an event at the Library of Alexandria, on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, are also part of the agenda.
Other suggestions involve a regional gathering with representatives of various religions, as well as an online event that aims to bring together student organisations that are active abroad.
The various proposals for physical events are taking into consideration the epidemiological outlook and COVID-related developments in all three countries, Fotiou noted.
Before the tripartite meeting, Fotiou and Vlasis will meet bilaterally to discuss specific issues concerning the Cypriot and Greek Diaspora.
