Cyprus and Romania to develop cooperation with the help of diaspora of two countries

A business forum between Cyprus and Romania with the active participation of the diaspora of the two countries will take place in 2021, officials from both countries decided on Thursday.
Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou and State Secretary at the Department for Romanians Abroad Ovidiu Burdusa met in Nicosia on Thursday where they discussed ways to develop cooperation with Greece, creating a trilateral partnership that will convey the message that all three countries are pillars of stability, peace and welfare in the region.
Speaking to CNA, Photiou said a memorandum of Cooperation has been signed with Romania on diaspora issues, noting that these issues can be strengthened on a bilateral level.
There are 40 thousand Romanians in Cyprus and the government is making all efforts to assist them. At the same time, Cyprus ranks 4th in investments in Romania, he added.
Photiou said "we have decided to schedule an investment forum in the next months so that business people from both countries can convey the right messages for investments".
They also decided to bring closer Romanians and Cypriots living in the United Kingdom as they have a large presence there, especially youth and students.
The Romanian minister told CNA that today’s constructive meeting was the result of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2018.
We discussed ways to cooperate on culture, involving the new generation of Romanians in Cyprus. Cooperation will also involve the business sector, bearing in mind the role the diaspora can play in developing business activities.
Burdusa said at the meeting they reiterated the importance of intercultural dialogue and cooperation between the Romanian community in Cyprus and the local community, noting that tonight`s event is a good example of this cooperation. "We encourage the Romanian community to maintain and promote its language, traditions and culture," he concluded.
