Presidential Commissioner briefs new Ambassador of Egypt on Diaspora cooperation CNA - CYPRUS/Nicosia 10/02/2021

Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots Fotis Fotiou, met on Wednesday with the new Ambassador of Egypt to Nicosia, Amr Mohsen Hamza with whom he discussed Cyprus' cooperation with Egypt, especially on Diaspora.

Fotiou pointed out the great importance of the cooperation of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt as well as of the wider cooperation in the region, which as he said “is as a pillar of stability, peace and prosperity in the Southeastern Mediterranean”. He added that in this context they also promoted and expanded cooperation in matters of the Diaspora, to promote the common interests of the countries, especially in strong decision-making centres abroad.

As he pointed out, the most important achievement at the level of Diaspora is the "NOSTOS" program for which three important actions have been carried out so far in Alexandria, in London and in Melbourne.

Fotiou also said that through the new Memorandum of Understanding, which will be signed soon, they encourage closer cooperation of the organised Diaspora of the three countries abroad, so that concrete actions can be implemented, especially in countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and France. At the same time, they promote issues of common interest for the three countries, such as issues of youth, entrepreneurship, science and education.

On his part, the Ambassador of Egypt thanked the Commissioner for the briefing and stressed his country`s support both in Cyprus’ national issue and in the cooperation regarding Diaspora issues.
